Adam McKay and Jennifer Lawrence (and Leonardo DiCaprio), “Don’t Look Up”
Adam McKay’s pivot to more serious-minded dramas with “The Big Short” and “Vice” scored with Oscar voters but had mixed results with critics, so news the writer-director is returning to comedy is welcome indeed. McKay is a film comedy staple of the 2000s thanks to “Anchorman,” “Talladega Nights,” and “Step Brothers,” and he’s gone ahead and assembled the most star-studded movie event in years with his return to the genre. “Don’t Look Up” stars Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio as low-level astronomers forced to go on a media tour to warn the population of an impending meteor that will destroy Earth. Lawrence and DiCaprio have showcased razor sharp comedic skills before, but never have they been front and center in a straightforward comedy vehicle. There’s also this whopping supporting cast to get excited about: Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Meryl Streep, Rob Morgan, Himesh Patel, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Matthew Perry, and Tomer Sisley.
